How Pro-Bono Sessions Help our Community

Your sponsorship allows for us to be able to fund pro-bono sessions, which are utilized by school children across Florida who have no or little insurance coverage for mental health.

In 2021, 53.1% of kids in Florida had a commercial plan coverage (source) for mental health, which has limited/restrictive rules (see here), and 7.3% of all kids in Florida, approx. 350,000 kids, have no coverage at all (source)!

Pro-Bono sessions are offered to different school districts across Florida whom we are partners with. These pro-bono sessions are a Godsend to schools, who often have trouble matching providers with kids who need help and have limited or no insurance coverage.

Our insurance had only approved her for 6 counseling sessions, and they actually ended up shifting the entire cost of her counseling to her deductible, so being able to find these pro-bono sessions really saved us. Even when kids are covered by a commercial plan (e.g. Florida Blue, Cigna), those plans are often restrictive. The client ends up paying the entire amount for mental health services, since deductibles and out-of-pocket limits become a huge barrier for treatment. And of top of all, most only cover 6-10 sessions at the very max, which is ridiculous.

We are able to offer kids with no insurance between 10 and 24 sessions of counseling and psychiatry each school year. This is an unbelievable achievement, even when compared to what they can get with a typical commercial insurance coverage. All free of cost to them!
